Meetings, Projects & Rides

TRAIL WORK  . . .

Trail maintenance work - please report down trees across the trails & other things needing attention on the trails.  We'll try to get it taken care of.  Our emphasis is on Mavreeso, Goble & Priest Gulch but we'll help out on any trails that need work.

However,  there is always a great need to pick up trash at Stinking Springs & Mud Springs especially.  For some reason,  uncaring people feel the need to throw out their bottles, cans, etc. when in these areas.  If  you've got a little spare time, call a few of us & do some pick up please.   Let John Kelly know your time spent.  Thanks!

FUNDRAISER  . . .

HUGE GARAGE SALE    -  Our May 2009 Garage Sale at the Lewis Grange was a success.  Our members rallied & came up with LOTS of good stuff for the sale.  It brought in over $600.  Items not sold were donated.

RIDES  . . .

INFORMAL TRAIL RIDES engaged in by various members during the week & on weekends throughout the year.  John, Kelli, Sue & Sharon ride alot.  Call one of them if  you'd like a riding partner.   These are not official club events just friends getting together to ride the many wonderful places we have here . . . mountains, canyons, etc.

PARADES  -  Various members enjoy gathering together to ride in some of the local parades like;  Memorial Day, 4th of July, Mancos Days, Escalante Days, etc.  These  are not official club events.

FALL COLOR RIDE & POTLUCK  -  is the only organized ride the club does.  The last one was held on Haycamp Mesa.  It was a stormy looking autumn day with a gentle breeze tho the colors were barely starting.  The riders rode out in small groups on the various trails & jeep roads.  Upon their return, around 1pm, we dined on a wonderful variety of  potluck dishes  while swapping "yarns".  Fun was had by all!

PROJECTS  . . .

Jan 26, 2008 -  J.A.K.E.S. Day  (Juniors Acquiring Knowledge Ethics & Sportsmanship).  Fun hands-on activities for kids!  They can learn to cast a fishing rod, throw a knife, pan for gold, start a survival fire, shoot a rifle, identify the tracks/pelts of animals & other outdoor life & survival skills.  Fire Department & Search & Rescue were there.  Too much fun!
At our MVBCH booth, kids tried their hand at roping a dummy "steer" & had a great time "riding" a trail obstacle course on handmade stick horses.

June 1, 2007 - The MVBCH donated 13+ tons of road base gravel to improve the entrance to the Mavreeso Trailhead parking area.  Members manned rakes & shovels to move the huge piles around filling the big holes & eroded area thus making it possible to get our horse trailers in & out safely.  A big Thanks to Curly of Summit Sand & Gravel for hauling it & even manning a shovel!

Summer 2007 & 2008 -  A Mavreeso - Goble Connector Trail was our primary project last year.  We worked with the US Forest Service in recovering the old trail between them,  making it possible to ride from Goble trailhead to Mavreeso trailhead.  We'll continue working on this trail cutting out deadfall,  pruning brush, etc this summer.

Click on our "Events" page to see activities, shows, clinics, etc. of interest to horsemen in the Four Corners area of the USA.  The Four Corners represents where the 4 states of Arizona, New Mexico, Utah & Colorado meet.
