If you have a love of horses, horseback riding, wilderness, and nature, you have come to the right place.  We are a group of horse enthusiasts located in Montezuma County, Colorado, near Mesa Verde National Park.   Mesa Verde Back Country Horsemen (MVBCH), is a chapter of Back Country Horsemen of America and seeks to perpetuate the enjoyable use of horses and mules in the back country.

MVBCH assist the Bureau of Land Management & US Forest Service in the maintenance and management of our local area trail, forest, and wilderness resources for all to enjoy. You are invited to become involved in our many activities, projects, and events.

Back Country Horsemen
Mission Statement

  1. To perpetuate the common sense use and enjoyment of horses in America's back country and wilderness.

  2. To work to ensure that public lands remain open to recreational stock use.

  3. To assist the various government and private agencies in their maintenance and management of said resource.

  4. To educate, encourage, and solicit active participation in the wise use of the back country resource by horsemen and the general public, commensurate with our heritage.

  5. To foster and encourage individuals to join and participate in their local, State, and National Back Country Horsemen organizations.

MVCBH is a member of these organizations:

Colorado Horse Council

San Juan Mountains Association

Colorado Trail Foundation

National Mustang Association - Spring Creek Chapter
