Club Information

MEETINGS  the Mesa Verde Back Country Horsemen meet the first Tuesday of each month at 7:00 PM.    Join us early (6:30 PM for grins and grub).  Guests are welcome!  Please e-mail us prior to each meeting to confirm location.  Since our previous meeting place, The Homesteaders, closed we've been meeting at the Public Lands building on Hwy 184 near Dolores, CO.

EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMS are often conducted at our monthly meetings that teach horsemanship, low-impact stock use, equine health care, trail etiquette, etc...

NEWSLETTERS are published monthly (except December) and mailed (or e-mailed) to our members as well as a representatives of area horse groups in order to keep the horse community informed.

CLUB LOGO - Club member, Susan Matteson, kindly designed our wonderful logo which we have embroidered on long sleeved denim shirts.  That way we can look like a group in parades, etc & have the fun of letting people know about our club.  It also can be silk screened onto shirts, caps, jackets, etc.

TRAIL WORK done by us maintains some of the trails on the National Forest and BLM lands.  Due to governmental budget cuts, we try to do our part to keep the trails maintained; hopefully keeping these precious trails open for recreational use in the future.  We are involved with the Lizard Head Wilderness & San Juan National Forest study groups, and work with other groups who seek to preserve the back country.

FALL COLOR RIDE & POTLUCK  -  is held in September or October.  Riders usually go out in small groups on the various trails then meet back at the trailers for visiting & eating a delicious potluck lunch.  Members only, but you may join at that time.

THANKMAS PARTY  - our holiday potluck with gift exchange is held in December.   We have a great time visiting, swapping yarns, exchanging interesting gifts & devouring tasty vittles.  It is a great chance to get better acquainted with club members & their families.  A really festive family affair!

Be sure to click on our "Projects" page to learn of upcoming club rides, projects & trail work.
