Special Events
J.A.K.E.S. DAY (Juniors Acquiring Knowledge, Ethics, & Sportsmanship): This late January community event is packed with fun, hands-on activities for kids. Held at the Montezuma County Fair Grounds, MVBCH participates with many organizations to make the day a success. Activities at our Back Country Horsemen booth have included roping a steer head, making and riding stick horses through a trail obstacle course, grooming a horse, cleaning out horses hooves, and even pony rides. MVBCH really supports this fun opportunity to introduce our youth to the wonderful world of horses!
TACK & YARD SALE: This annual spring event is a major fundraiser for Mesa Verde Back Country Horsemen. Our members rally to donate all types of tack and equine equipment along with general yard sale goodies. Consignments for larger items are accepted and tables are available for individual sellers. Those who help set up always get an early look at the merchandise. In 2010, we raised over $1,000 at the sale. This is definitely a day to bring your friends. Anything left over is donated to charity.
FALL COLOR RIDE AND POTLUCK: This event is held in September or October when the fall colors are at their peak. Riders usually go out in small groups on the various trails then meet back at the trail head for visiting around the campfire and sharing a delicious potluck lunch or dinner. Participants are also welcome to camp for the weekend. Members only, but you may join at this time.
THANKMAS PARTY: Our holiday potluck and gift exchange is held in December. We have a great time visiting, swapping yarns, exchanging interesting gifts, and devouring tasty vittles. A really festive family affair, this is a great chance to get better acquainted with Chapter members and their families! Check the Calendar page for details. | ||||||||
